The TXQi series is a large industrial crossflow cooling tower designed for site assembly and long-term operation in demanding environments. Engineered in Melbourne by an experienced cooling tower manufacturer, the TXQi range forms part of Tower Thermal’s heavy-duty portfolio of industrial cooling towers.
This field-erected cooling tower system uses a crossflow cooling tower design with right-angle gearbox driven fans, providing reliable airflow and reduced maintenance compared with belt-driven systems. The structure incorporates a column and girt framing system, fibreglass exterior casing, suspended PVC fill, dual-layer drift eliminators and air inlet louvres.
The TXQi series is available in multiple material configurations to suit operating environments, water quality, and project requirements.
Cooling tower construction options
The TXQi range is available as either a fibreglass cooling tower or a stainless steel cooling tower, depending on the corrosion resistance and lifecycle requirements of the installation.
FRP / Fibreglass Cooling Tower Construction
Fibreglass cooling towers use a hot-dip galvanised structural steel frame combined with a fibreglass reinforced plastic (FRP) exterior casing. The galvanised frame provides structural strength and dimensional stability, while the fibreglass casing delivers corrosion resistance and long-term durability in wet operating conditions.
This construction method provides a robust industrial cooling tower structure while maintaining the corrosion resistance advantages associated with fibreglass cooling tower systems.
Stainless Steel Cooling Tower Construction
Where additional corrosion resistance is required, the TXQi can also be supplied as a stainless steel cooling tower. In this configuration, the tower structure, casing and major components are manufactured from stainless steel to provide maximum durability in aggressive industrial environments.
This option is commonly selected for installations where water quality, chemical exposure, or environmental conditions demand a fully corrosion-resistant cooling tower system.
Cooling tower structural design
The structural system is based on a column and girt framing arrangement, allowing the tower to be transported in modular sections and assembled on site. This modular approach simplifies logistics for large industrial cooling tower installations and improves safety during installation.
The design builds on experience gained with Tower Thermal’s smaller TXQF cooling tower range and incorporates proven structural engineering principles to provide long service life and predictable thermal performance.
Cooling tower components
The TXQi incorporates several key cooling tower components designed to maximise performance while minimising water loss:
- Suspended PVC fill media for efficient heat transfer.
- Right-angle gearbox fan drives for reliable airflow and reduced mechanical maintenance.
- Dual-layer drift eliminators to minimise water carryover and drift loss.
- Dual-layer air inlet louvres to control airflow and reduce wind-driven water loss.
- Fibreglass or stainless steel casing options depending on project requirements.
The combination of these components improves overall cooling tower performance while reducing operational water loss caused by windage and drift.
Maintenance access and servicing
To support long-term cooling tower servicing, the TXQi series includes internal maintenance walkways and multi-level ladder access as standard. These features allow safe inspection and maintenance of key cooling tower components such as fill packs, fans, drive systems and drift eliminators.
Integrated access systems simplify routine inspection, cleaning and servicing throughout the operational life of the cooling tower.
